Legislative Assembly
We are grateful to the Legislative Assembly, its Members and its staff
for helping OLIP to become so successful. Without the cooperation of
Members, there would be no placements for Interns, and therefore no Programme,
and without the help of numerous staff in the Assembly, the Programme
would not be anywhere near as successful as it is now.
The Placement Process
If you are interested in having an Intern working in your office during
the current year, here’s what will happen:
- Telephone the Intern Office (325-0040) and leave a message
indicating that you would like to participate.
- Complete the
questionnaire and return it to the office where an Intern will pick
it up.
- You will be telephoned by one of the Interns to arrange an
interview – all
eight interns will participate in this interview (in other words, there
will not be eight separate interviews) and we suggest
that both the MPP and your key Queen’s Park staffer participate.
Please
note that the purpose of the interview is for the Interns to learn
about you, your office and your work; what we want
to ensure is that there is a good match between what you need from
the Intern and what kind
of experience the Intern will have in your office. In contrast from normal
staffing arrangements, the
Interns will select the MPP they wish
to work for:
you do not select the Intern you want.
- Four Interns will be placed in the offices of Government MPPs
and Four in the offices of Opposition MPPs in each placement round.
Where there is more than one intern wishing to work for the same MPP,
the Programme
Committee will adjudicate the competing “claims”. Placements
for the first part of the year will be announced as soon as possible.
- The
second set of placements will also be based primarily on these interviews;
there will not be a second set of interviews. All MPPs
who are not selected in the first allocation will be considered for
the second set of placements.
The Ontario Legislature Internship Programme has proved its worth to
dozens of MPPs since it was established over twenty-five years ago.
However, to build on that success, we need you! Please consider taking
part!
